Set in 742 CE during China's Tang Dynasty in the bustling capital of Chang'an, the story follows Li Shaoqing-a blind, kind, and sweet guqin player who "sees" the world through sound and music. He meets Wei Jin, an observant and caring clerk in the Ministry of Rites, who is immediately drawn to Shaoqing's warmth and talent, seeing him not as a man defined by his blindness but as someone with a rare clarity of heart.
As their romance deepens, trouble strikes: Shaoqing's gentle uncle, a poet, is falsely accused of treason by the powerful Chancellor Li Linfu. To keep Shaoqing and his young sister Meiling safe, Wei Jin sends them to a remote mountain village while he stays in Chang'an to uncover the truth. In the village, Shaoqing uses his music to unite the villagers and fend off a court agent sent to find him.
Eventually, Wei Jin uncovers evidence that Li Linfu forged the treason documents. Shaoqing's uncle is cleared, and the two are reunited in Chang'an, where they plan to build a life together-bound by love, music, and the knowledge that they have stood by each other through darkness.
