Lanval is lost. A shadow at the Round Table. Forgotten by his king and envied by his fellow knights. Without money and without friends, the young knight is unsure where to turn.
But when a stroll by the river leads to a curious meeting, can Lanval find a solution to his troubles? Perhaps even something more?

This is a modern translation of Lanval's meeting with the attendants--Amylia and Belinda--and his first encounter with the fairy woman--Lady Maela. Please note: Besides the fairies' names, this is not my original work but a modern prose version of lines 49-134 of Marie de France's Breton lai "Lanval".
