I shouldn't be where I am right now, intertwining my flesh with a woman who gives the devil a run for his money, but here I am.

They meaning your parents, teachers, friends, and etc. have told you from a young age to be yourself, but then say the contradicting statement of being part of the group. To what degree does someone change oneself to follow the norm? In Alarcon's sestina explore how society dictates and does not in ones life and if their is a healthy medium of remaining oneself and being part of a group.

This room is cold. I am only given a thin sheet to cover with at night. It is a punishment, I suppose, for my unfit behaviour. It could have been worse. I could have had something cut off or gouged out, but Mother loves me too much to let that happen. A short story based off of Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale. No copyright intended.

I'll mostly be based off the book, because I haven't seen the Netflix Series.

Inspired by the series "The Handmaid's Tale", this story is based on some of its events and uses some of its characters, with some small changes in the actors who portray them. Enjoy!

This is an alternate ending to the book 'The Handmaids Tale' by Margaret Atwood. It was written for my IOP (individual oral presentation). In this version of the story, the narrator 'Offred' manages to escape her confined life to an unforeseeable future in the fictional Republic of Gilead. Credits for the characters go to the author Margaret Atwood.

June, alias Offred, finds solitary confinement at Serena Joy's hands intolerable and plots to end her servitude for good.
