Freya seized the girl's arm, quickly covering her mouth with her hand, and drew Zoe close to her chest; she felt the girl's tears trickling onto her hands. With the last ray of sun, the girls stared at the two large, black, creatures ripping through their prey. Keith's sniper rifle lay a few feet away, unused. Blood stained the grass around the monsters, their two front legs were long and sharp like a praying mantis, they used them to slash through the bone.

When a criminal fugitive breaks out of an experimental prison, she must ally with one of its wardens to uncover the secrets of the megacorp that owns it, and the sinister project behind its creation. - Aami Axora was never supposed to know about the project. Of course, she would be dead before its name ever hit her ears. That was the plan, anyway. Locked away as punishment for a crime she refuses to remember, Aami is determined to find a way to escape the institution and return to the city where she was raised. Though when her path is crossed by Greg McCullough, a strange cyborg employee, her plans to return to her old life take an unexpected turn. A new paranoia has swept over the planet Absteria. "The Eden Experiment" is what it was called. At least to those who survived knowing its name. Tension builds between the two refugees as they prepare for a life-or-death investigation of the company they suspect is behind the project: a bionics megacorp by the name of Bader Co. However, Aami's hotheadedness is not one to coexist with Greg's passive demeanor, and the two must force themselves into cooperating. After all, if they want to make it out of the Experiment alive, they're going to have to play by each other's rules. - "The Eden Experiment" is an 85k new adult science-fiction and the first installment of a three-part series. The story is heavily character-driven, and includes themes regarding existentialism, found family, overcoming trauma, and optimism in the face of nihilism. A story for those looking for a tense techno thrill sweetened with moments of feelgood fluff. - Warnings: Violence, Graphic depictions of injury and death, Strong language - The Eden Experiment © 2024 Lone. There are a lot of off world colonies of humans all over the galaxy. Some are more genetically distant than others, but many of the people from there could walk around on Earth and nobody would notice. People from Sirius and Pleiades are good examples of this. Many of these colonies have been intentionally kept out of contact with Earth and other colonies as well.

In a universe where the different dimensions are known as "Realms", one Realm was called Ofwardin. The Ofwardians were a diverse group, and they were governed by the Guardians of the Council which was divided up into Novice Guardians, Junior Guardians, and Senior Guardians. The Senior Guardians wielded the most power, and they were subsequently the most powerful Ofwardians in the land. However, they also had something like a superiority complex-they frequently looked down on the Junior and Novice Guardians. When a few Junior Guardians decide that they are fed up with being treated like lesser human beings just because of a title, all the hell breaks loose. ((To SW friends-this is an Offworld AU fanfic-type thing, and to get to the original thread I posted in Offworld use the external link on the first part of the story))

There is no real need for fear with the things in the light, but always fear the ones that come out at night. All mortals have a need to sleep. Rather, fear the immortals that never rest. For they are the ones who are always thinking. Thinking only about one thing. My story starts after escaping from my enemies holding cells. I was scared, but at least I was never alone. I always had her, my burning star, guiding me to my fate.

Body parts growing down in the local woods, scary encounters in a deserted escape pod, something odd lurking in the ocean at Dulgots Trench, aliens who have no feet......further tales of the unexpected. A sequel to Setting Suns-a collection of short sci-fi stories. Two of the first seven stories are a couple of my favourites from the original collection. I'll be adding more as time goes by. A usual it's lucky dip, some sweet, some sour and some downright strange !

One human female. One powerful alien warlord. A bond neither of them wanted... and a fate neither can escape. When Mira Calder signs away her freedom to save her sisters, she knows she's walking into a cage. Her once-noble family is ruined, her father imprisoned for debts he left unpaid-including the one owed to the terrifying Skar'thren warlord known as Veshar of House Kriss'kar. Mira expects chains. Humiliation. Death. What she doesn't expect is him-towering, silent, a creature of silken webs and glowing eyes who speaks no human tongue, but whose every move is a silent threat... and a promise. A male who feeds on emotion, who watches her like prey-and yet doesn't break her. Veshar never wanted a human. He wanted vengeance. A symbol. A slave. A concubine. But what he got was her-a fierce, haunted female whose presence pulls at something ancient in his blood. Something sacred. Something forbidden. His Threaded One. Now, as war brews and the young Queen demands Mira's removal, Veshar must choose: deny the bond and preserve his place in the empire... or claim the one female the universe has marked as his. But Mira has no intention of belonging to anyone. Not even the monster she can't stop dreaming about.
