I wrote this story in response to my soldiers. When I told them I was leaving the army to become a teacher, they laughed. "Imagine SSG T., a teacher. Ha!" "He'll be screaming at kids and making them push." "You could scare the shit out of them by giving them a thousand-yard stare and putting on camo." It became a joke about what kind of teacher I would be, after having been an infantry squad leader. Elizabeth McBride, a 16-year-old girl who loves to paint, just got out of the hospital after having from the most traumatic experience in her life. She now spends her time holed up in her room, refusing to eat more than one meal a day, painting dark portraits of death and blood and gore, listening to her radio and songs from musicals, and crying. She knows she needs help but she doesn't know how to ask for it without making herself vulnerable. But how will she live her life to the fullest without being vulnerable at least once? (Sorry about the name I know it's part of my name but I couldn't think of anything I've used too many)

This is a poem I wrote about the thoughts and feelings I have about the PTSD I'm experiencing.

My parents were gone, I had to live with my cousin Dillon, I get bullied everyday, life couldn't be better. Wrong. My parents were in Africa, and I was stuck with my stupid cousin and his friends, who find the need to beat me everyday. I'm done with it. So what do I do? I change my look, and run away. I am a combat veteran turned middle school history teacher. I wrote this story after taking a group of 8th grade students to tour Washington D.C.
