I wrote this story in response to my soldiers. When I told them I was leaving the army to become a teacher, they laughed. "Imagine SSG T., a teacher. Ha!" "He'll be screaming at kids and making them push." "You could scare the shit out of them by giving them a thousand-yard stare and putting on camo." It became a joke about what kind of teacher I would be, after having been an infantry squad leader. Bits and pieces of this story are true, but it's mostly a combination of my old Polar Bear brothers' jokes. Pro Patria! First published in, Proud to Be: Writing by American Warriors, Volume 4

From exclusive interviews with director Ken Russell and new interviews with cast, crew, and historians, comes this examination of the beautifully blasphemous film The Devils. Based on historical fact, this controversial 1971 film is about an oversexed priest and a group of sexually repressed nuns in 17th-century France and the ensuing trials and exorcisms that followed. Detailing the production and the personalities of two of cinema’s great eccentrics, director Ken Russell and star Oliver Reed, Crouse delves deeper to explore the aftermath of the film. Chiefly, the question asked is How can a movie by one of the most famous filmmakers in the world end up banned, edited, and ignored by the company that owns it?

This is a story about a group of individuals who all wind up intertwined in y/n's life. It's a never ending cycle of deception and mistrust, but near the end of the tunnel, will the light of love shine through? (This is all a joke btw)

I am a combat veteran turned middle school history teacher. I wrote this story after taking a group of 8th grade students to tour Washington D.C. During our visit to Arlington National Cemetery, I found more than just my friends' graves. First published in, Proud to Be: Writing by American Warriors, Volume 5
