At twenty-two, Shae Whitmore inherits a sprawling Victorian mansion from a grandfather she barely knew and had long been estranged from. The house sits in a quiet, isolated town she has never even heard of, tucked far from the life she once knew. With little tying her down and curious about the mysterious inheritance, Shae decides to move in, hoping the old property might offer a fresh start. The mansion itself is beautiful but unsettling-an aging relic filled with towering windows, narrow halls, creaking staircases, and rooms that seem untouched for decades.
At first, the strange noises feel easy to explain. The house groans with the wind, pipes rattle in the walls, and floorboards creak beneath her feet. Shae convinces herself it is simply the sound of an old structure settling, something any Victorian home would do. But as the days pass, the disturbances grow harder to ignore. Footsteps echo in empty hallways when she is alone. Doors shift slightly open after she is certain she closed them. At night, she hears faint movements above her, as if someone is walking through the attic.
Determined not to scare herself with imagination, Shae begins exploring the mansion more carefully. She discovers forgotten rooms, hidden corners, and traces of a past her grandfather never shared with her. The house feels almost alive, watching and listening, as though it holds memories it refuses to let fade.
Soon the strange occurrences escalate into something far more disturbing. Objects appear where she did not leave them. Shadows linger too long in dark corners. The attic, which seems rarely used, draws her attention with unexplained noises and a constant sense that something-or someone-is just out of sight.
Shae slowly realizes the mansion is not simply old or abandoned. Something within its walls is moving, hiding, and waiting. What began as curiosity about her inheritance turns into a growing fear that she is not truly alone in the house.
