Quirky, Ricky Vera is unexpectedly sent to Durango, Colorado to spend the summer with his uncle. The fourteen-year-old's last-minute trip does nothing to alleviate the chronic anxiety he suffers. The first eventful week in Durango doesn't either. A scary incident in the woods, an odd confession from his uncle, and the discovery of an injured wolf in the basement are but a few of the heart-racing moments Ricky faces during his first week. They are also the beginnings of an amazingly unique friendship and life-altering journey! Feral is a wolf... or he used to be. He had been the curious runt of an admired but harsh Alpha. His mother's affection was the only softness in his life. Many centuries ago, during the first Thanksgiving feast, all of that changed in a night. A horrible encounter with a monstrous creature ended his wolf life as Hidden Paw and his eternal life as Feral began. When Ricky first meets Feral, he sees only an injured wolf. An avid animal lover and even more so, an obsessed wolf fanatic, Ricky overcomes his fear to help the wounded animal. When Feral sees Ricky for the first time, he thinks Ricky is a typical teenage human not worth his time. They are both wrong. The old adage, don't judge a book by its cover has never been more appropriate. Ricky comes to learn that Feral is a one-of-a-kind creature and Feral learns Ricky is not quirky and anything but average. Ricky is autistic. They find, despite being classified as 'different' by others, they have a lot more in common than they could ever have dreamed! What makes them oddities in their everyday lives makes them best friends in Durango! Bloodfang has it all! There is emotional bonding, teenage angst, animal-human communication and vampires! Bloodfang is a must read fantasy book that takes make-believe and intertwines it with real issues of this generation.
