The dead typically want one of two things. Ghosts crave conversation. Spirits seek pain. My name is Bria, and I've been able to interact with the dead for as long as I can remember. Communicating with the deceased might sound like a cool gift, but let me assure you, it's not. Ghosts don't shut up, and not all specters are friendly. In fact, most of them are dangerous. Pretending the paranormal doesn't exist is far easier than talking to the shadows, so I've been avoiding the dead for years. Past experiences have led me to avoid the living too. And for a long time, I've successfully kept my distance. Until a single ghost encounter in the library ruins everything. Now a couple of my classmates know my secret. I love the Open Novella Contest for finding new stories by authors I've never met before and I'd love to share some authors with you that maybe you have never found before. This book will be slowly filled with authors and books of all genres and styles and places in the writing journey. I do believe every book in here has something special to be shared, and I hope the variety allows you to find some things you like. My intention is to keep this book updated with books currently updating, whether they remain in the contest or not, because I think the ultimate goal of having a complete story at the end is the most important part, regardless of the success in the judging rounds.

Guardians, those who have swore to protect humanity's freedom even at the cost of their own lives. This is who Takiaya is-or was. Now everything has changed. Only a scarce few of the Guardians remain, and Takiaya can't bring herself to trust another human again, not after what happened. But when one boy saves her, she can't help start to wonder. Is all of humanity as cruel as she thought? And if not, is there some good still worth saving?
