"This is an Angel girl named Maisie Lark. She hasn't ever stepped foot into the 'real world'. Attempting to break the lock is useless and I have the key. I've extended the olive branch. Maisie's your motive. Come find me when you're ready." Cecilia Star has been alive long enough to know what it's like to be a demon in the human realm, but she's also been alive long enough to cope with her everyday life. But when she wakes up handcuffed to a strange Angel she's never met before, she's thrown for a loop. Cecilia assumes it's all just one big, extremely cruel prank by the twins in order to rile her up and test her limits. After all, Maisie is everything that Cecilia would rather leave behind her, determined, opinionated, and so very clearly wrong. But it doesn't take Cecilia and Maisie long to realize that the handcuff prank is a little more than just a lighthearted joke. The thing about Demon metal is that it is a fickle thing. It can only be unlocked by the person who has the key and no matter what method is used, it cannot be broken. Cecilia would rather just forget the whole thing, refuse to give Ezekiel the satisfaction he so wants, and remain handcuffed to Maisie for the rest of her life. It doesn't take long to realize that it's just not possible. Maisie is everything that she shouldn't be in the human realm. Bigoted, rude, and annoyingly difficult. She can't even get close to Cecilia without making some sort of remark on how she can't stand Demons. As the time ticks down and options become less and less, maybe being handcuffed to each other will teach Cecilia and Maisie a thing or two about themselves. Maybe running from the past isn't the right choice and perhaps, maybe even a Demon and Angel could fall in love too. (Entered in the Open Novella Contest 2022 under prompt 79. Her eyes involuntarily traced his muscled torso, the vast span of his dark olive to light brown skin which was coated with thick lumps of mud in places but seemed to carry no visible wounds. The ebony hair atop his head were coiled up in tight curls, as luscious as his thick eyebrows and the eyelashes fanned over his wide, curious eyes that housed the most brilliant cerulean irises she had ever seen. Given the youthful fullness to his cheeks and the vibrance of his coral lips, he looked not much older than her. Cynthia would have perused the individual longer, lost in her curiosity at his state, had he not cleared his throat to toss her out of her thoughts. His brow scrunched up and lips pursed down, before he opened his mouth with a sharply snapped, "I need to talk to a human." She stepped forward with a hand extended towards him. "Um. I am a human. Are you okay?" He looked her up and down, eyes brimming with amusement. Then very slowly shook his head. "No, you're not." Prompt #52: Legend says only he who was fit to rule England could pull the sword from the stone. But the only one who manages to do so is a she. AUTHOR'S NOTE: I tweaked the prompt a teeny bit. I changed England to a fictional island called Moneres Islands and adjusted the setting from historical to present day (without the COVID vibes). According to ancient legend on the Moneres Islands, "He who is fit to rule could pull the sword from the stone." Is a short cute Korean girl from America fit to rule when she accidentally and drunkenly freed the decrepit blade in the dead of night? The answer is a resounding, "Oh hell no!" Except the people of the islands, including the current king, take the outdated myth very seriously and are set on crowning me - Winter Copeland, a 26-year-old photographer from Wisconsin - the queen in thirty days. While I'm safe from wearing clothes inspired by the Easter Bunny, I need to take crash course on how to behave like royalty. Apparently, queens don't joke about reverse harems, kick sleazy lawyers in the gonads, or prefer to hang out with dogs than converse with real people. With my best friend, Philomena, by my side, I'm ready to slay the etiquette classes and boring history lessons while evading my super serious and super hot personal bodyguard and the soon-to-be ousted prince with a perpetual frown on his handsome face. Some welcome the sudden royal change while others are determined to see me fail. Even I expect myself to fail on more than one occasion, but one thing I know for sure. Queens don't quit. They conquer.

Cereal is a necessity to Connie Darwin, and so every day she goes down from her room of solitary and opens the fridge to find the milk. Then she pours her milk. Then she plops in the cereal and heads upstairs again. And the cycle repeats, until she finds her best friend, Clementine Lund, dead in her room, where she wasn't before. When her parents call her for a family meeting, she sees Clem again. And from then on, she starts using orange juice, because Connie needs those calories to get her energy up. He had seen her dead, wrangled body in the hospital, raspy breathing, gasping for air until it stopped altogether. If she was dead, why was she eating dinner with his parents right now? *** Skyler Everlow's life was flipped upside down when his girlfriend, Natalia, was severely injured in a car accident. He was there in her last moments, he held her hand when she died. He watched her die, and there was nothing he could do. However, his whole world was flipped upside down once again when he saw her eating dinner with his parents, perfectly well and happy. Turns out, a mistake had been made in the afterlife and she wasn't supposed to die. After years of struggling to make it as an actor, Daniel Shephard is finally about to make it big. He's landed the lead in a superhero movie. He's about to be Captain Universe with the whole world. The only clue he has is the manuscript pushed in under the door. A script so terribly bad, it physically pains him to read it. Once done, they told you that as long as they lived, you would too. Nearly 2000 years have passed since and you continue to search for them each and every day.

[COMPLETED] Elliot wants to win the war. An unresolved conflict from the past led Angels and Demons to be at each other's throats.
