Unwinds are these unfortunate kids. Irene, Wendy, Kingsley and Milo are some of these unlucky victims, who have to run away from the unwinding process... but that's easier said then done. But, maybe with just a shred of luck, they'll manage to make it to the age of 18. (This is an Unwind fanfic! It's just based on the idea of the story, so there will not be any spoilers if you haven't read the story! Also, go read the book, it's really good!)
