A young Thomas Nickerson chose his path to join Captain George Pollard and his first mate Owen Chase to go find whales for oil. That's not the only thing they found during their journey in the ocean.

After her father was chosen as captain of the Essex, Verona Pollard, the reckless teenage girl that everyone thinks would loose her life due to her stubbornness, gets offered a choice; she can either leave Nantucket and go to a place where she will be safe during her father's journey, or she can leave with him, joining the crew of the Essex for the journey of her life.
