Many threats endanger the world, including Eclipse City. But residing there is five heroes in the forms of animals that humans shapeshift into called Protectors. Including high school student Ellie Noir that is motivated to protect her friends and her crush Toby Summers. When Ellie is invited to a Halloween party where Toby will also be, a change of events makes her try to save the city and be at the party at the same time.

Things seem to be normal once again as Christmas is coming for the citizens of Eclipse City. Ellie Noir secretly has the Protector Convention to attend before Christmas and needs to cover it up as efficiently as possible. She doesn't expect any of her personal human life to get in the way until a person she recognizes becomes a new student at her school. Now similar thoughts are caught up in her head as she attends the Convention where a threat is in hiding.

In this prequel, all the previous Eclipse City Protectors were mysteriously killed resulting in the Elder Protectors frantically choosing new members to be trained by Portland's Protectors. One of these new members is none other than Ellie Noir, a freshman thrown into a life she never asked for.

Ellie is spending later of the day on Valentine's Day with the Protectors fighting monsters when Marky flies in to save her and something they never thought two Protectors could do happens...fusion. Ellie and Marky have melded into one being and while they have one mind and one verbal voice, their voices are separate in their fusion's head. And while they aren't in any immediate danger, someone is closer and closer to finding out Ellie's true identity.

Easter is just around the corner and so is Prom for Grand Lion High in Eclipse City. Ellie is excited to go with her boyfriend but a person close to her that she's wrong is plotting revenge and many secret identities will be revealed.
