Oxygen, carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, calcium and phosphorus make up 99% of the mass of the human body. These elements combine to form molecules ranging from water to the twin helices of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) that specify the genetic code. Life on Earth probably began with complex, virus-like molecules that over billions of years evolved cells and the ability to split carbon dioxide and water (H2O). The poisonous waste product, oxygen, released into the atmosphere, probably caused the first mass extinctions on Earth. Kaira is a Factorem. She breathes carbon dioxide and turns it into oxygen; like a tree. In the futuristic world she lives in, hardly any trees exist anymore, and the air was barely breathable. That is, until the scientists at the new world lab came up with the brilliant solution of combining the dna of a tree with the one of another species. They started with mice and then dogs and finally humans. Kaira is a third generation Factorem which is a very rare thing since Humans and Factorem cannot produce offsprings. Factorem are considered inferior to humans so it is only natural for her to want to be treated as one of them.
