Jonathan Fulbright coasts through a charmed life as a suburban high school senior at the prestigious Ivory Porter school in Cascadia's Saint Vincent metropolis in 2003, where video games and partying with the Clique define his reality. His dreams are haunted by visions from the cultural zeitgeist of the millennial year to come, replete with disaster, warfare, and imploding friendships. As graduation into the 'real world' approaches, Jonathan's desire to slip effortlessly through senior year collides with the inevitability of atomized life in an accelerating digital frontier where destiny awaits. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0GT1JQ77G

Vienna Anne Clark had endured enough tragedy to rewrite all 8 Taylor Swift albums (albeit lacking the same poetic vision). Between losing her greatest support system, dealing with her mother that refused to get the help she needed, and working 2 dead-end jobs to make ends meet all in a town she hated, she couldn't be more ready for a change. One untimely fight with her mother and a tightly-packed Subaru later, she was gone. Little did she know that a small town in Oregon was about to change her life.

Lacuna, a small town somewhere near the border of Oregon and California. Nestled in a valley of mountains too insignificant for a proper name. Maybe you've unwittingly stopped there for gas on a long car trip or maybe you've made a horribly wrong turn and found yourself turning on all the lights in your car and constantly checking your rear view mirror. Everyone knows however that something isn't quite right. Normally in the pacific northwest, UFO sightings, Bigfoot encounters, and local legends are commonplace and lead to nothing more than interesting interactions with crazed locals. Lacuna, however, is different. Missing persons, cults, shadowy corporations, ritualistic killings, bizarre monuments, and strange buildings litter the town and seem impossible to ignore.

When small-town high schooler, Adeline Dayton receives a once-in-a-lifetime chance to bring her celebrity crush, Jacob Sartorius, to her school's winter formal, she expects a few days of stardom and an experience like no other. What she doesn't expect is the quiet connection that forms between them-- the stolen glances, the late-night conversation, or the way his presence feels much more natural than it should. For four days, Jacob steps out of his spotlight and into her world, and Adeline sees the boy behind the fame-- the one who craves normalcy, who laughs at her terrible jokes, who looks at her like she's more than just a fan. And yet, neither of them dares to say what's really on their hearts. But as the days fade and the real world calls to bring him back, the unspoken words between them grow heavier. Was it just a young, fleeting spark, doomed from the start? Or is she more to him than just another fan? ******** As soon as this story is completed, I will be returning to the beginning to rewrite!

This is a two-chapter preview of this novella. It is far in the future, the time of humans has past and nature has begun to reclaim the earth. Buildings have started to sink back into the soil, and trees reach their roots far beyond the bounds of their sidewalk boxes. Nature has long been divided into isolated islands between cities of metal and rock, but now it is becoming one again.  The story takes place in the forests of the Pacific Northwest, which remained relatively untouched to the end of human rein. The animals here are aware of the human lands, but do not venture into them. Willow is an adventurous, orphaned, Red Fox with an insatiable fascination with the world around her. She spends her days exploring the hills and glens surrounding her old willow tree home. She brings back with her artifacts of her travels: stones, feathers, leaves, flowers. Her best friend is Poppy the house mouse, who is exactly that, a homebody. Poppy follows Willow on her adventures, but does so with trepidation. As winter nears, Poppy spends her time doing "chores" for her mother, which consists mostly of collecting seeds and packing them away. Therefore, Willow spends most of Fall exploring on her own. It is during these times that the fox begins to hear her name, softly floating on the wind. At first she thinks she is imagining it; she imagines that she is speaking with her mother quite often. However, as the days grow shorter, and the wind grows colder and stronger, her name becomes louder. On the stormiest days it is as if her name is howling through the branches of her tree home. When Willow begins to tell Poppy that she hears the wind speaking, Poppy dissuades her from pursuing her curiosity.

In Salem, the fog doesn't just hide secrets - it remembers them. Dawson Lowe spends his nights skating under dying streetlights, chasing distractions that burn out too fast. He doesn't talk about what he's lost, and he's learned not to stay anywhere long enough to lose more. Then Blair Parker shows up - sharp edges, restless plans, and eyes that carry too much silence. But something in the city is shifting. Power cuts bleed into blackouts. Sirens stretch too long. People vanish, and nobody asks why. Dawson and Blair don't mean to get caught up in it, but Salem doesn't forgive, and the past doesn't stay buried. It isn't about running anymore. It's about what hunts you when there's nowhere left to hide.
