Set in the late 1980's, a young girl, emancipated at eighteen and already on her feet comes to age in this thrilling, romantic novel. Max is trying to get her life in order after being pushed around by a plastic Barbie doll of a mother and cut off from her father and his wealth. Scarlet Carol is a black, Brooklyn girl with big dreams and is eager to make it in New York City. This actress wrestles with the struggle of making it to Broadway and the difficulties of trying to move on from her past. When she meets Al Pacino- an up and coming Italian actor from The Bronx- he suddenly brings all of the chaos from her life into focus. When Al charms his way into Scarlet's life and, sooner or later, into her heart, Scarlet's life will change right before her eyes.
