In the story, Hearts in Formation, Savannah plays a central role as both the emotional compass and spirited motivator of a diverse friend group navigating the complexities of identity, acceptance, and teen relationships in a conservative-leaning town.
She becomes a guiding force for the new transfer student, Kai, a shy nonbinary teen trying to find where they belong. As Kai struggles with dysphoria, alienation, and social anxiety, Savannah invites them to join the cheer team-not to perform, but to help behind the scenes with routines and design. Through this, Kai gains confidence, and a heartfelt friendship with Savannah blooms.
Meanwhile, Savannah wrestles with her own growing feelings for a rival cheerleader from another school-Jules, a bold and flirtatious girl who challenges Savannah to stop playing it safe and be more open about what she wants in life.
