-Ryan's parents are neglectful and leave her to take care of their four year old son, Teddy. -Alice's parents have an over-involved relationship with her, and she feels suffocated until they die in a car accident. -Ryan and Alice fall through a rift in space, meeting in a place where very few humans have been. -Ryan begins meeting up with Alice. -Ryan and Alice are drawn to each other for comfort. -They both develop feelings for one another. -Ryan wants a way out of her life for what seems like the thousandth time, but finally knows how to get it. -Alice is afraid of losing the life she's always known, and doesn't know how to deal with her parent's deaths.
