In a small, decaying town, the corpse of the corrupt mayor Alastor appears on a park bench-charred, worm-ridden, and inexplicably smoking a lit cigar. In his lap sits a porcelain doll with a name written in blood: Mariane Stolen. A list of sins carved in stone exposes a lifetime of greed, lust, and the unspeakable abuse of an innocent child.
Mariane is no ordinary victim. Defiant, magnetic, and utterly unapologetic, she is a trans woman who has turned the town's women into her devoted followers and its men into her bitter enemies. As gold rains down and mob frenzy erupts, only two souls-a sharp-eyed police officer and a gentle young man-refuse to be consumed by madness.
But the dead do not rest easy. And when a shadow slips from the burning corpse and a howl echoes from the mountain, it becomes clear that something far darker than revenge is at play.
Rest in Rust is a gothic, atmospheric horror-mystery about vengeance, identity, and the rot that festers beneath the skin of a community.
