Little Kasha is only half of what she seems. Being born a paranormal creature, she has little options of what she can do without drawing too much attention to herself. Trying to run away from what she is, she finds herself in a place called the Forever pet shop where she and the owner Nick have a little deal worked out. Every so often she is given out on loan for humans looking for rare and exotic breeds. It never lasts long and each one brings her back. When she comes back she is allowed time to herself, safe in the little pet shop with no one the wiser of what she is. Life is easy and she is safe. Until one day a man walks into her little safe haven. He knows exactly what she is and despite her and Nick's arrangement, it looks like she'll be getting a new owner, indefinitely... **Author's Note: This is a short story. There will be other short stories to follow this one.

He threaded part of the belt through the loops on his trousers. 'Best be prepared.' What for? A sudden need to DIY? Then I saw it, hanging from one of the utility belt hoops. Wooden and as thick and about a quarter length in size as a broom handle. 'What's that?' I stared at the pointed tip. Jake rolled his eyes as if to say, you know what it is. 'Curious one aren't you? That's understandable. A stake. Not ideal, stakes should always be made fresh and dedicated to the one you're hunting. But we don't have time for that.' My mouth hung open. Who the hell had I gotten into the car with? Jake left the vehicle and approached the house I'd pointed out to him. Striding with all the determination of a door-to-door salesman intent on making a sale. People might have thought him one if door-to-door salesman were known for looking like they were about to jump into a mosh pit at a heavy metal concert.

It's been weeks since Mortimer and Kasha's run in with the Anderson witch. At first it was a wonderful break to just be home with Mort but after a while Kasha grows restless with just sitting around. Her boredom doesn't last long though when her least favorite goddess comes to pay a visit. Bastet gives Kasha a ridiculous task. The devil calls for help. And once again Kasha's past seems to be sneaking in...
