A secret laboratory researching better vaccines and cures for fatal diseases spontaneously burst into flames, killing every scientist within... But some people who watched the footage swear that they saw some sort of strange creatures exiting the building? Skeptics exist, and they include a young man named Ethan, a chronic introvert with no interest in making even one new friend... But Ethan is about to be proved wrong as a personified, anthropomorphic, and very real pathogen shows up at his doorstep and convinces him to turn his small house into a sanctuary for more of her kind. What will happen when pathogens come to life, forced into hiding by the military that aims to swiftly and secretly eradicate them? And will this introverted man who hasn't had a friend since he was 19 care enough to help?? (Author's note: Don't mind that the cover says ''Protector'' and not ''Protection'', I changed the title. They reach towards finding other signs of humanity after being forced to leave their shelter, due to the invasion. Although this does not take place before the beginning of the book, this is meant to provide insight as to what is going on and to what is expected. As much as I am proud of this five-hundred word introduction, I am not certain whether or not I shall insert this as a chapter.

Dementia and aggression turn the infected into a rage filled, animalistic creature. Here is the small story told from the point of view of a marine, fresh out of deployment overseas. Emilia Larsson, Regional Infection Prevention Coordinator with the CDC, is assigned to work with Doctor Rudolph on his cure and to ensure that all his procedures are WHO approved. It is a dream for her to work with her new team and when she meets the test subject, Alexander Maxwell or 'subject zero' as everyone calls him, she starts to fall in love with him. As Emilia fights to stop the program which she deems to have been carried out unethically, they make a new discovery. The cure works. But there is a cost.

Aiden has a huge secret she's kept from everyone, and it may cost her her life. But The Rule has a bigger secret - one they've kept from the world. When they reach The Last City, the secret is revealed and there is an uprising. But the friends have no time to join the uprising - they have to save Aiden from herself first.
