Her family disapproved, fearing her writing would bring shame. Despite this, Kathleen persisted, mailing her work to local newspapers. When one got published, she felt heard. The publication sparked tension at home. Her father raged, warning her to silence. Kathleen, however, refused to back down. She wrote in her journal, "If silence is my inheritance, I choose to break it." Her dreams were now stitched into her skin. Kathleen envisioned building a school where girls could speak freely and celebrate their questions. She wanted to inspire, teach, and change the air. The dustbin beside her desk, once a symbol of defeat, now represented battles fought and never surrendered. Kathleen's story is one of resilience and determination. Short family story describes about patriarchy

This is a short story about a dystopian patriarchal society that I wrote to prepare for an exam. It was inspired by a previous piece I wrote in an earlier exam where the stimulus was to use a central metaphor of a key (hence the name of this piece). It was also inspired by another piece I wrote which I will probably upload next if this is well received :) have fun reading~

This poem bring to light how many women are trapped into a vicious circle of abuses and how this is empowered by patriarchate cultures. Women are unable to report abuses and to shows struggles because often the perpetrator is loved out of his home by family and friends. These women are often labelled as strong and brave in their old ages because the word victim is misinterpreted. Usually children living in this situations become attached and protective toward to their mother in adulthood and refusing to detach doesn't allow them to understand the abuses witnessed with a high possibility that this lead them to fall into the domestic violence cycle. The poem conclude, by stressing out the importance of education to break free from a patriarchic culture and enable people to have the right tools to understand and support victims, perpetrators and children.
