When Derry is evacuated after an emergency, the Losers Club travels to the quiet town of Hawkins, Indiana, where they should be safe. Joined by his cousin Mia, who carries her own personal demons, Bill and his friends begin to adapt to this new small town; entering high school, making friends and fitting in better. However, the illusion is shattered when Georgie goes missing one day, El starts having nightmares, and something dark and evil looms under Starcourt.

Mike Wheeler is the reincarnation of Richie Tozier, who died the first time with Pennywise. He starts getting dreams and memories on the 27th year that Pennywise should return. He heads to Derry for answers and meets the Losers Club, who have come back to finish the job they started back when they were 12.

My heart is pounding in my chest, the sound of my blood rushing through my veins echoes in my ears as I splash through the dark tunnels of Derry's vast sewer system. Why did I come down here looking for him? He told me not to. I stop for a moment as I come to a fork in the tunnels, two passage ways on either side of me, and I had one choice to make. Right or left? Looking to my right I notice a pair of bright yellow eyes glowing in the distance, the water at my feet lapping gently against my skin as they move closer. "You can't hide from me, Emberlee..." His maniacal laugh reverberates off the concrete walls of the tunnels. Without putting too much thought into it I sprint down the left tunnel away from the monster chasing me. I had gotten myself into this mess, and I had let him into my life. After all, a monster is a monster.
