It all started before I knew the Olympian gods were real. Before I discovered that Poseidon's blood ran through my veins. Before I faced mythological monsters and became the number one suspect in the biggest theft in millennia.
My name is Percy Jackson, and I used to be a normal kid... more or less. Until one day, my mother disappeared in a flash of light, a minotaur almost flattened me, and I ended up in a cabin surrounded by half-brothers who kept saying things like "demigod" and "Camp Half-Blood."
But what no one warned me about was that I wouldn't be alone.
Because when I got to camp, I saw her. Her hair was golden like the sun, and her blue eyes shone with an intensity that seemed to read my soul. Lilybeth. So beautiful that even the leaves seemed to bow as she passed. And as lethal as a lightning bolt when she was angry.
She was a daughter of Aphrodite and Zeus, and although everyone thought children of the love goddess only knew how to flirt and fix their hair, Lilybeth was different. There was a storm inside her. I knew it the night I faced the minotaur: when I managed to wound it, she appeared in the last second, raising her hand to the sky and hurling a lightning bolt that pulverized it, knocking us both unconscious.
Since then, our stories became intertwined. The quest for the stolen lightning bolt, the betrayal of the gods, the secrets hidden beneath Olympus... I lived through all of that with her by my side.
And although this story bears my name, it would be unfair not to start by telling it with her. Because without Lilybeth, I might never have survived to tell it.
