the way magick calls to some people

In a dystopian universe the people worship the goddess that saves and protects the people from the wrath of the war of gods. Many years, long after the war had ended, the goddess decides to give the gift of a select power to all as to protect themselves. On their 18th birthday, one must face a set of trials as a test of character to receive the gift most suited for them by the goddess herself. Unsure if she even wants a gift, Lydia wakes up on her birthday dreading the worst case-scenario. Will she be blessed with a genital, caring gift like her father, a curse to haunt her like her mother, or something else entirely?
