People who have philophobia have a fear of love. This fear is so intense that they find it difficult, sometimes impossible, to form and maintain loving relationships. "Philos" is the Greek word for loving or beloved.

Meeting Karla Turner wasn't the best thing that happened to Robin, nor was moving away from his home in California after his parents' murders. Philophobia - the abnormal, persistent and unwarranted fear of falling in love or being in a deep relationship. Everyone has their own phobias and fears, whether it's spiders, heights, snakes or - in Penelope's case - falling in love. After watching her parents fight and go through a terrible divorce when she was seven, the only thing that she is sure of is that she never wants to experience it herself. Steering clear of boys and focusing on her studies, Penelope feels satisfied with her life. And then a transfer student from Seoul, South Korea shows up, and all of a sudden, everything changes. He's nice, funny, and cute. But something is holding Penelope back and she knows exactly what it is: her past. Terrified of ending up like her parents but determined not to, she tries to gather up all of her courage to do the hardest thing she's ever had to do- face her fears.
