The story begins thirteen years before the first Pirates of the Caribbean film. Jack is branded as a pirate and must face what that entails, in a world ruled by the East India Trading Company. Through progression and experience, Johnny discovers himself changing as a person entirely, from a gentle and honest man, to an anger-driven, highly volatile, and dangerously skilled killer with almost unlimited potential, who will stop at nothing to reach his goal. Will Johnny be able to rescue his family in time? Or will he lose himself along the way and cast aside all that is precious to him, embracing his formerly dormant killer-instinct and deeply hidden desires?
