War never truly ends. Thirty years ago, the New Hope Republican Empire was consumed by the bloodiest conflict in human history. No one was left untouched by the conflict that pit sister against sister and friend against friend. Not even children far removed from the conflict. Although the laser rifles have been lowered and the space cruisers are docked, the war is still ongoing. Except instead of trading shots in space, combatants trade insults in the Imperial Court of Empress Naima Dreamwalker. The Empress's court is as lavish as it is deadly and a single misstep can mean doom for the unsuspecting and fame for the calculating. Here the Five Immortal Houses are stuck in a dangerous game of power and status. Houses Dawncrusher, Voidwalker, Goldfoot, Boltcutter and Greentouch were balanced by the Empress, who mediated disputes between Highbred Immortals, but she's been absent for ten years and tensions are rising. Especially with House Goldfoot taking liberties with the lands and coffers under other's domains. Peace is rapidly deteriorating and it's only a matter of time before the Empire is tipped back into open conflict again. The way to peace rests in the hands of four very different people: Necessity Dawncrusher, an Immortal Scion; Ayotunde Goldfoot, an outcast; Clarissa Darkstar, an Imperial bastard and Mordecai Amjad, an Earth-born guard. The only thing connecting them are dreams. If only they could understand them.
