Johnny some how survived the fire, and the doctors found out a way to fix Johnny's back. In the meantime Johnny enjoys the privilege of being able to continue living, such as spending most nights in the lot, with ponyboy. All of the boys are relieved that Johnny survived, especially ponyboy.....Johnny and poneyboy get really close, and start to catch feelings for eachother. they try expressing their feelings for eachother, while the rest of the group notices a very flirtatious thing going on between the two. Johnny and ponyboy are nervous to tell the group about the feelings they are catching. They have a feeling that they are gonna be very unaccepting of them being together, for the fact that they are the same gender. more fights happen between the greasers and the Socs, while Johnny and ponyboy are always there to protect one another. There was the night that ponyboy and Johnny layed down in the lot, when suddenly ponyboy puts his arm around Johnny, as they fall asleep next to each other. They wake up to all the boys standing around them with their arms crossed, as Johnny and ponyboy stare up at the group.
