Elva is a human transfigured by nefarious magic into the form of an owl. She has to go on a journey to get her human body back. Without her human body she is forbidden to enter the castle where she once lived. Elva must restore her human form to regain the trust of the other humans that are fearful and superstitious of magical creatures. Along the way she is helped by her friend, Baldur the gnome, who consults magical creatures and the other gnomes to find a solution to Elva's problem. The problem escalates when Baldur and Elva awaken an undead creature called a draugur and it begins to stalk them in their journey.
