Raven is back in her childhood home, but it feels like a lifetime ago. Her father, whom she had been estranged from for years, is trying to reconnect with her, but Raven is hesitant. The trauma from her past, combined with her mental health struggles, makes it hard to let anyone close. Her father is well-meaning, but he doesn't fully understand what she's gone through, and Raven finds it hard to express her pain.
Enter Nikolai, a boy she's known since childhood. He's the son of a priest, and though they've crossed paths before, their lives never seemed to align-until now. He's friends with her brother, and something about his presence rubs Raven the wrong way. She doesn't want to get involved with him, especially because of the weirdness of him being a priest's son. It feels too complicated, too close to her past, but Nikolai is persistent. He seems to understand her in a way that others don't, and his presence brings a sense of comfort she isn't sure how to process. Despite her hesitation, she can't shake the feeling that there's something there between them.
But Raven's battle with her mental health makes it hard to let anyone in, even someone she's known for years. She's scared of what a relationship would mean for her-her anxiety, her mood swings, her hallucinations, and her past trauma all seem like insurmountable obstacles. Can she really open up to someone, or will the weight of her struggles keep her isolated forever?
As she works through the ghosts of her past and the complexity of her mental health, Raven must decide if she's ready to let go of her fears and take a chance on something new-or if the scars of her past will always keep her from moving forward.
