The spirits of the dead are real just as they are always with you. One day, a young boy was born to a former Soul Reaper Captain and a Quincy (warriors who destroy Hollows using Spirit Energy bows and arrows) who was just radiating with pure spirit energy. The happy couple thought their lives were complete when they were suddenly under attack by a surge of Hollows who had come for the boy's spiritual strength. The father and mother were murdered by the horde, leaving the boy at the mercy of the Hollows before the other Captains of the 13 Court Guard Squads came to the boy's rescue. Captain Retsu Unohana, feeling sorry for the young infant, took it upon herself to raise the child as her own. This is the story of a boy who desires to become the number 1 Soul Reaper and protect others from harm.
