In 1996, when the Opel Astra was launched in India, the car caught the eye of ten-year-old Veer. As the son of a prostitute, he didn't even have the privilege of touching it. The immoral act has always been looked down upon, but for Meera, it was the only means of survival. She's the mother of two rasgullas, Veer and Tara. It's not easy for the children either. Their mother is always treated as an outcast, but the young boy is determined to be the man of the house. Their way of life is disgusting to many, pitied by some, and accepted by one man. Kindness, love, and courage can lead to the most beautiful thing... A Handful of Happiness. --- Ongoing | PG13

In the depths of a life she never chose, she exists, a shadow in the mirror, a whisper in the wind. A ghost in her own world, invisible to those who don't look closely, her presence a mere echo in the silence. Poverty and loneliness are her constant companions, echoing through the empty halls of her heart, a relentless reminder of what she lacks. Her days blend together, a monotony of struggle and survival, with no respite in sight. But amidst the darkness, a spark within her flickers, a flame that refuses to be extinguished. In the silence, she's searching for a voice, a purpose, a reason to rise above the whispers of inadequacy that claw at her soul. She's yearning to be seen, to be heard, to be understood. Will she find her way out of the darkness, or will she remain unseen, lost in the shadows of her own making? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain - she will not be silenced, she will not be defeated. For in the unseen, there lies a strength that's waiting to be unleashed.

When Anita's mother dies, the heart monitor flattens into a straight line - a line her mother could never draw. That moment changes everything. At sixteen, Anita becomes the mother of three siblings in the soot-stained city of Port Harcourt. While other girls dream of school and love, she learns to trade both for survival - selling zobo by the roadside, burying her tears beneath duty. Life takes more than it gives: her father, her dreams, her body, her freedom. When a boy named Kenneth offers her a glimpse of tenderness, it feels almost like healing - until loss returns, sharper than before. From the farms of the village to the glittering loneliness of the city, Anita's life becomes a series of choices made in the dark, each one carving her into someone she never planned to be. In Straight Lines, I tell a story of womanhood, survival, and the cruel poetry of fate - where love comes too late, and the lines we draw to hold ourselves together don't always stay straight. In a world of full sacrifices, hindi naiiwasan na may mga bagay na mahirap isakripisyo.

All her life, Selestia Eira (Nyebe) lived in the shadows of poverty. A small house with leaking roofs. A table sometimes empty. A childhood stolen too early. While others watched sunsets with laughter and carefree hearts, she spent hers working, chasing coins just to make it through another day. But then came him-the boy who lived in a world completely different from hers. Rich, untouchable, and free. The kind of person who never had to count loose change or wonder if tomorrow meant hunger. She swore she would never let anyone see her scars, her struggles, her truth. Yet somehow, he found beauty in her broken pieces... in the sunsets she thought were stolen from her forever. But can love really survive when the world keeps reminding her she was never meant to dream that high? Started: Sep/19/25

I was never well off in life, quite the opposite. Every dollar came from hard work, I barely got to enjoy the luxuries everyone else took for granted, falling asleep in front of the TV while watching your favorite show, going to the mall just because you want a new outfit, sleeping in on a weekend and taking things easy all day. For me I only got to fall asleep while sitting on the kitchen counter, worrying about next month's bills, I stressed over buying new clothes but a pair of jeans can only get so many rips in them, and weekends were even harder than the weekdays, stores were busier, more people were out and about leaving less time to get my thoughts together while at work. I found myself blaming my mother even though it wasn't her fault. It's not like she decided to get cancer and decided she was too sick to work only leaving me, a high school student, to drop out and start work early. It didn't matter anymore though, she was dead, and as cruel as it sounds, now I don't have to stress about hospital bills. As a high school dropout it was difficult to find good jobs, leaving me to work multiple minimum wage jobs at once. All hope seemed lost to me but a small glimmer shined through the clouds when I heard of an opening as a maid at the mansion on the rich side of town. It was the highest paying job I've ever qualified for and after listening to the rumors of how the owner is a psychopath, I figured I wouldn't have much competition for the spot. Whether that would be for better or for worse in the end. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ [This is an AU] [Cover made by: TheDarkenIllusions]

I wrote all of these poems (except one, which I'll say in the A/N of it's own) in my Short Stories and Creative Writing class. (2011-2012, first semester. Yes, I was a freshman when I wrote these poems.) If your school has this class, and you haven't taken it, I would suggest you do so, it's a great class. I'm sure that my writing would have been a lot better if I would've taken it my senior year, instead of just last year. It was a great class anyway. :)

Twelve-year-old Sarah Lee longs to remain in the golden fields under a starry sky forever, but life has other plans for her. After the bleak spring of 1816 yields meager crops, Sarah's family flees its home in the English countryside to labor at a textile factory in newly industrial London. A factory accident several months later leaves Sarah's father out of work and her family desperate for money. Despite the worries of her older brother Thomas, Sarah disguises herself and ventures into a dangerous new job. Sarah soon learns that life in London is not as simple as it seems. She meets Jamie, a sullen, aggressive boy who helps her adjust to the new conditions. But Jamie has dark secrets of his own, and his reluctance to trust strangers clashes with Sarah's burning curiosity about his past. As the city creeps towards winter, Sarah and her friends stand face-to-face with the horrors of London poverty-rising prices, rampant crime, disease, and hopelessness-and it becomes clear that not everyone will make it out alive. Everyone has a secret, and the consequences can be more devastating than any of them can imagine. "Dark, emotionally gripping, highly researched... very impressive." Penguins are overrated, in Katsuki's mind. They smell, they're loud, and they shit every ten minutes. How he ended up working with them, he doesn't know, but he hates it. Okay, so maybe he needed a pay raise. Sue him. That doesn't mean he enjoys it. It's hard to enjoy getting bit every time he so much as looks at a penguin, after all. Let alone when he tries to handle one. It certainly doesn't help that he keeps getting paired with Kirishima, who's all smiles and way too damn friendly for his own good. ~ Or, when Katsuki works as an animal handler because he's broke and hungry, and inadvertently warms up to both the penguins, and a certain red-haired boy.
