How will two PPDC cadets react when they discover that they have both been asleep for 5 years and that Australia has completely fallen to the kaiju, with them stuck in an abandoned base far from Sydney or salvation? Due to an incident while training in the new MK.6 jaeger, Centaur Phoenix, the two cadets were rendered unconscious and and were placed in an experimental stasis pod to be monitored while they recovered though how would they be woken up if the kaiju return with force and take Australia? They wouldn't, not until 5 years later when the monitoring machine fails and triggers an emergency wake up procedure.

Mara Ajax, a J-TECH officer specializing in Jaeger engineering and weaponry systems who worked on Jaeger's such as Striker Berserker, Hunter Vertigo, and Zeus Marauder, got transferred over to the Meridian Shatterdome in Australia to repair the Jaegers that come through there. Shortly before the Black begins, she goes outside of the shatterdome and drives across the city, seeing Striker Berserker, and Mara entered the Jaeger through the hatch. She finds an injured Hercules Hansen and his co-pilot, who is non-responsive.
