When Tess returns to the Louisiana bayou to settle her missing cousin's affairs, she expects decay, regret, and ghosts of the past. She doesn't expect the swamp to be silent. No frogs. No birds. No bugs. Just still water - and something moving beneath it. As she reconnects with a skeptical bait shop owner and an old family friend, Tess begins uncovering pieces of a mystery Jonah may have died trying to solve. Local legends speak of "Old Maw," a creature too ancient for science, too real for folklore. One by one, the bayou's secrets rise to the surface - and Tess finds herself in a fight for survival against something primal, cunning, and utterly unforgiving.
