Story begins in the Kingdom of Ludi (Green Lands) which is the richest and the most popular. It is regarded as the mainland and has no neighbor allies. Shufen is accused to be the biggest traitor of Ludi whereas somewhere in the same kingdom Huanhua is a simple village girl who is sold but later becomes the most formidable assassin of the time. The story is all about emerging out of disappointments. It encourages the readers to open doors for new opportunities, to find solace in the light rather than getting lost in the darkness.

Soon Umoja seems to be falling apart. Creatures are leaving their factions. So, she sets out to help Umoja. On her journey, she makes a few friends along the way. She also learns more about what caused Mgawanyiko Wa Umoja. Soon her entire world shifts. She starts to question her mission and everything she knows about herself. This story takes place in an alternative reality, in what is now Ireland, during an ice age (referred to as the ice curse). The story takes place in prehistoric times. Luan is the first protector for the Tribe of the Broken Mountain ever since the ice curse ended. When she is on watch one night, she sees the development of a strange settlement. When she reports it to her pendragon, she is told that the dragon in control of the ley of the land for her area, Endellion, is possibly imprisoned here. But when she arrives to redeem the dragon, she is put through a situation she has never been in before. Protector takes the reader through Luan's journey to save Endellion and her tribe.
