Finny had never really known what a year meant. He knelt by a flowerbed he'd planted a year prior, which had somehow survived under his care. Sebastian had told him that the primroses were perennials, so they would bloom year after year, but the sight of the newly opening, pale blossoms made Finny's chest seize up. Finny sniffed, dragging his sleeve across his face. "Whatever is the matter?" asked Sebastian, calm yet puzzled voice coming from over Finny's shoulder. "The flowers are perfectly intact." "Yeah! I just..." It must sound silly, but Finny smiled through his tears. "We made it a whole year, and so did they."
