All Damian could think about from that moment, was whether or not the young child would make it through. From what he could just about see, her injuries were nearing on fatal. Things about yourself always sound better when you're oblivious to your own true nature. DISCLAIMER: I was around 15 years old when I wrote this, and it was the first story I wrote (the first story I posted on this site was written after this; you'll notice that both stories have similar titles). I haven't edited anything about it, except to separate dialogue from whole paragraphs and to correct some of the grammar. Also, the protagonist is 22 years old. If you want some context, that is.

I can hear the words, "Do you take James King as your partner for life, as your rock, as your helper, as your aid, as your best friend, as your husband? Do you promise to honor him, love him, help him, care for him through the best and worst of times?" I suck in a sharp breath, his fingers squeeze mine. My hands shake. My breath trembles.
