What does it actually feel like to be erased? Everyone talks about the Winter Soldier like he's just this scary story, but they don't see the parts that got buried along the way. They see the missions and the name, but they weren't there when his whole life was being ripped apart. They didn't see him being broken down and rebuilt into someone he doesn't even recognize. People remember the name. But they have no idea what was lost to make it.

It's 1942 in Brooklyn and Steve and Bucky are making the most of their time together. Bucky is going off to war soon and Steve is desperate to go with him but gets rejected every time. Steve believes his feelings for Buck are unrequited and should go away soon - but maybe he's wrong.

What if the Winter Soldier wasn't just used for killing? Can Steve get through to Bucky? (well yes obviously but that's not the point) Includes a bit of pre-serum Steve too.

When Steve slips and breaks his ankle and his new neighbour Bucky helps him to the hospital. In the 1940's, and there is no government project. Of course Steve and Bucky are not my characters, they belong to Marvel.

Iris, Steve and Bucky have been friends for eight years now but now it's time for the trio to break up into a duo when Bucky enlists for the army but everything changes when Steve and Iris are selected to be part of 'Project Rebirth.' A/N: This is my first fanfic ever and low-key a rewriting of the first movie so honestly hate comments over cringey parts are acceptable.

This was the worst day of Steve's life. First, his boss for his new job, a clerk at the local grocery store, was a total ass to him and made him work all day, from 7 until 12, and he was just now getting home (the grocery store was quite a miles walk from his apartment.) Secondly, some jackass, who thought he was bigger and better than Steve (which he was, since he was stronger and more bulkier compared to Steve's skinny and unhealthy frame), tore up his notebook and threw his pencils and sketches into a puddle of water from the everlasting rain Brooklyn has had these past few days, completely ruining them and causing Steve to throw them away. And now, it was 3 in the morning, and someone was knocking, quite loudly and rather rudely, on his front door. Who the fuck would be knocking on his door at the 3 in the morning? What he didn't expect to see was his (supposedly) dead best friend, soaking wet from the rain and covered in blood, standing in the doorway with a grim expression on his face. "Bucky?" Yeah, this was definitely the worst day of Steve's life. Or, the fic where Steve never enlisted in the war and never got the serum, Bucky still becomes the Winter Soldier, and a lot of heartbreak, feelings, and angst is involved.

This is a short story. Maybe.
