If you have ever read "Pride and Prejudice," you'll probably notice some parallels. I'm trying my hand at a modern twist of the Jane Austen novel so please be kind!

Even with the oppressive and strict rules of upper class society in the Regency era, chaos always finds a way. Set in the same time period and societal position as Pride and Prejudice, this story follows Jane and Frederick, two very different individuals, alike only in that they want to break free of societal expectations, end up married to each other, and therefore stuck together in exactly the kind of life they wanted to escape. This is a work in progress of a novel, please keep that in mind as you read on. The story is narrated by an eighth-grader, Aakriti, who regales the exploits of her and her two best friends and their messy love affairs, all the while counselled and at times coerced by a tenth-grade lesbian couple who are self-proclaimed parental figures to the protagonists. It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single hot boy who has just moved into a new school must be in want of a new girlfriend. This sweeping generalization has been reached upon without any discourse with the said boy, mind you. Meet Nishita, the tenth standard self-proclaimed matron of me, Aakriti Rajbhandari and my best friends Sachina and Ehana, who are all in the eighth. Sometimes, I wonder if the sole purpose of her life is to see us dating pretty boys.
