A short poem inspired by the story of the princess and the pea. Followed by a retelling of the story in my own words. I thought for a long time that this story was about ungratefulness for some reason. Thinking the story surrounded a spoiled princess who was making everyone's life harder by not just going to bed. Imagine my surprise when I discovered a few months ago that the story is in fact about a young woman proving herself to be who she says she is all because of a small lump in a mattress. Having enough courage to ask for help in becoming comfortable being what proves her to be a true princess. I also see the story to be a reminder of my own relationship with God/The Universe. I need to know that if I am the daughter of The King I am then a princess. A princess is never afraid to ask for her needs to be met, and she is never wondering whether she deserves to have her needs met. It is imperative that I remember it is not only necessary for me to ask from God what it is I want, but to also believe that I deserve it to come to me once I've asked. It is important for me to not question whether I deserve what I want. I deserve what I see and I see what I deserve. For me this story represents the fact that I deserve comfort. I deserve safety. I deserve softness. I deserve clarity. I deserve rest. I deserve to bloom. I deserve to act in my creativity. I deserve to revel in my creativity. I deserve to move at my own pace. I deserve to figure things out as I see fit. I thank God for hearing the prayers that sit in my heart or at the tip of my pen, or in notes app unable to find the force to come out of my throat and on to my breath. Thank you for being patient with me in learning to bring my prayers out of me for I know my breath is a necessary propelling force for my prayers to become more than words. Thank you for pushing me and challenging me. I will do better and more. Amen.

Some of their other competitors turn out to have cruel intentions, but others turn out to be on friendly terms with them. Will they be able to prove themselves true princesses? And will the prince of H'aloi ever discover what it means to love? A fairytale retelling based off of 'Princess and the Pea'.
