Luciana and Henry Exeter are the only children of the King and Queen of Wemblyn. They're twins and their parents never told them who was older. They were told that the heir would be announced on their eighteenth birthday, based on who deserved it more. But on their eighteenth birthday the heir is announced and the twins know that the choice didn't reflect them at all. Now Luci is headed off to Azariana with a man that she hates and Henry is running a country that he doesn't feel fit to run.

The story depicts a young girl who has grown up in a kingdom and has a younger sister. Though over time, her father sees in his mind, and his opinion, that she's ready to take the role of Queen for the kingdom of the underworld. Yet, in her opinion, at her age, she's not prepared, and she doesn't think she's fit to be queen or have that title. So she runs away from home, takes a whole new identity in the human realm, and decides to go back home years later. Once she sees that certain things in the kingdom have changed, her father's idea of her taking the title of Queen, don't change. He wants her to rule and appropriate the underworld.
