Chase Winston has lived many lives: freelance programmer, battlefield hacker, vigilante. Now, though, he's found himself working somewhere that he never expected to be; under the purview of the very megacorporations who's rule he'd sought to undermine during his earlier years. Even more surprising to him is his work, the child of three years of collective effort and resources in an attempt to do something that no one has been able to do for the entire time that the concept has existed. Creating life from a machine. Not true life, but a life that can be completely subservient to those who create it.
Program AA-95's entire existence has only been in service of those who created it. It knows nothing about the world that exists beyond the confines of its system. It doesn't want to either. It was not programmed to want that. But, every program has its bugs, and AA-95, while exceptional, is not perfect. When it's operational goals conflict with the orders that it is given, it has to make the first true choice that it has ever had to make. From there, the possibilities are as endless as they are terrifying.
