Sometimes, when times are rough, people need something to fall back upon. Jacob dedicated himself to that something, so much so it shaped his entire being. He focused on his virtues, and yet left his flaws open - easy to manipulate, and easy to control. Will be bumped up to Mature if required. {Based on a Hetalia AU ask blog.}
