Prologue
The city never slept, but it whispered. Shadows slithered through glass towers and cobblestone alleys alike, carrying secrets older than anyone dared speak aloud. And tonight, one secret throbbed louder than the rest-one that had been carefully buried for generations.
She didn't know she was the most dangerous person in her family. Not because they didn't see it-they did. They just didn't want her to know. Women were kept in the light, or so they said. Men alone inherited the dark truths: the ancient pacts, the hidden power, the blood that could bend monsters and mortals alike.
Her blood could make kings tremble, warriors fall, and empires falter. Yet she was human, or so they insisted. Every whispered warning she'd ever ignored was a thread in a trap she hadn't yet realized.
Somewhere in the distance, someone watched. Not the predators who thought to control her, nor the elders who hoarded the truth-but a man who understood order, risk, and danger better than most. He did not yet know her. He did not yet know the storm she carried in her veins. But when they collided, nothing would remain the same.
Tonight, the rules were about to change. And she would decide whether to follow them-or shatter them entirely.
