Crimson, a faerie with seemingly no Auroran-like ability, is curious as to why her mother forbids her to enter the clearing - she suspects that her mother knows more of it than she lets on. The Auroran Empire is falling apart - with Crimson is stuck in the middle, not knowing who to side with.
