The year is 1995. Unbeknownst to the general populous, everybody has the capacity to perform magic. One's abilities generally fit into the mold of 15 subcategories of magic, and it's often based off of one's personality and habits. In order for one's magical abilities to be activated, a ritual must be performed: one must be killed and resurrected by a necromancer. If the ritual is performed correctly, one emerges a warlock. In order to prevent the warlock population from dying out, a warlock must take on 3 apprentices over a 30 year period. Failure to do so can result in execution. Juniper Brown is coming upon her 20th year of warlockhood, and has yet to take on any apprentices. Ergo, she decides to take on 3 at once: Pepper Williams, who can control the elements; Enrique Cervantes, a necromancer in training; and Desmond McAllister, who happens to be some kind of anomaly. Due to his strange abilities, Desmond is treated like an outcast to society, and given 6 months to live before he is executed at the hands of the government. At the same time, he finds himself falling for the brooding Enrique Cervantes. Will Desmond and Enrique find a way around the government's cruel decision, or will Enrique be forced to watch the man he loves be executed at the hands of an unjust system?
