This is my account of what happened on the first day I was in the psychiatric unit of a hospital. It was the pediatric section because I am a minor so yeah. I wrote this because first, I wanted people to know its no fun in there and it gets tiring because no one listens to you at all and because you are in there for at least a week and you're in there because you have a mental issue which sucks like seriously who the fuck wants a mental illness like damn I'll give you mine any day if you actually want one ya ignorant piece of shit they suck ass. I also wrote because I just wanted to put my experience in words, I guess. Enjoy (maybe lol)

Some doors in a psych ward aren't meant to be opened- And some questions aren't meant to be asked out loud. This is the final piece of my eight-part collection, Barbed Wire Psalms- poems about survival, relapse, family lies, dark humor, and the places where grace finally catches up. Psalm VIII asks the last question: Who really gets to walk into your life-and who never earned the right?

Everyone is a Survivor is what I hope will become my story of dealing with mental illness. The first "part" is the rant that I thought up about why there is so much stigma and secrecy revolving around mental illness. This is a work in progress, so hopefully as time goes by this will become an inspiration for others to speak out about their mental illness. Always remember, you are not alone and you can always feel free to talk to me if you need someone to vent to. :)

Ivy "Red" Calloway wakes up in St. Dymphna Psychiatric Hospital with no memory of how she got there. Again. The doctors say she has Dissociative Identity Disorder. Inside the ward, she meets four other women-Marla, the dangerously charismatic heartbreaker; Nell, the poet who speaks in riddles; Sasha, the girl dissolving into perfection; and Angie, the weary mother figure hiding her own ghosts. Together, they make up a twisted sisterhood of the forgotten, the misdiagnosed, and the misbehaved. At first, their days are filled with group therapy, bad cafeteria food, and whispered secrets. But soon, mischief turns into mayhem. And when a challenge to outwit the staff spirals out of control, the women are faced with a terrible question: Are they playing the game, or is the game playing them? A dark, haunting, and deeply human story about madness, survival, and the blurry lines between reality and delusion. By Cydney McMillon
