I wrote the bulk of this story in 2009 - 2012 (and completed the final two chapters in 2022) as an experiment along just those lines: a MOTU adventure in the style of Robert E. Howard, of whose works the MOTU franchise has always been derivative. Those early minicomics, beautifully illustrated by Alfredo Alcala and Mark Texiera, captivated my youthful imagination and led to my eventual love of prewar American pulp fiction. This story draws mostly on that canon, with some Filmation elements as well.

“The “O” line aero-train has just exploded and the first two cars have broken away and are out of control. His thick gloved hands slipped on the accelerator grip as it iced up once again, sending the sky sled in a lurch of power toward the out of control aero-train cars like a dagger. Harker used the mishap to his advantage. Cutting in close to the dual cars he got a good look inside both of them. Two people were in the second car which had its first three cable rings bent up and sparking as they tugged and scratched on the high tension cable strung within the track struts. This was the very reason Sky Sentry had chosen to keep this car with the engine when he decoupled the others and exactly why he couldn’t return to base after he’d already interfered.
