Its early chapters also contain elements of the Western. The story is set on Mars, imagined as a dying planet with a harsh desert environment. This vision of Mars was based on the work of the astronomer Percival Lowell, whose ideas were widely popularized in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The Barsoom series inspired a number of well-known 20th century science fiction writers, including Jack Vance, Ray Bradbury, Arthur C. Clarke, Robert A. Heinlein, and John Norman. An Indiana Jones universe fanfic starring Short Round. Now in his forties, archaeologist Dr Wan Li (once also known to a very select few as 'Short Round') is still seeking his big break. The find that will net him 'fame and fortune'. Acclaim and credibility amongst his peers, financial freedom and, as for his detractors, nay-sayers, and enemies? Well as they say: 'the best revenge is living well'. The story begins in West Java, Indonesia, where Dr Li is on the cusp of a great discovery, one that could bring him the fabled wealth and reputation he desperately desires. But the rug is about to be swept out from underneath him and his personal goals may just have to wait a little longer. To be published as a serial, I plan to post each chapter as I complete it, and aim to have 20(ish) chapters in all, with each chapter to be posted every 1-2 weeks.
