Huminga siya ng maraming beses at makailang beses ding lumunok. Mariin siyang pumikit upang pigilang tuluyang tumulo ang mga luhang biglang namuo sa kanyang mga mata. Ilang minuto pa siyang nakatayo sa likod ng pinto. Walang kamalay-malay ang mag-inang Carla at Lee na kanina pa siya roon. Hindi siya makapaniwalang narinig niya ang mga katagang 'yon mula kay Lee. Si Lee na simula pa pagkabata ay itinangi na niya. Hinding-hindi niya malilimutan ang araw na iyon sapagkat noon namatay ang kanyang puso. Labing apat na taon siya noon. Siya si Princess Shania Virginia Avila. Oo, aminado siya sobrang pangit talaga siya noong bata siya. At ganoon nga ang buhok at kulay ng balat niya. Ngunit walang karapatan ang lalaking iyon para laitin siya ng ganoon habang nakatalikod siya. Kababata pa naman niya ito. Pinakisamahan niya nang husto at lihim na minahal 'yon lang pala ang tingin sa kanya. Kaya naman sinabi niya sa kanyang sarili na hinding-hindi siya magkakagusto sa mga gwapong lalaki. Dahil karamihan sa kanila ay arogante, overbearing, insensitive at self-righteous. Si David Lee Montecillo, nag-iisang anak at tagapagmana ng mga Montecillo na tinitingala sa kanilang bayan. Sino ba ang hindi makakakilala sa halos may-ari ng buong bayan ng Santa Catalina? Pag-aari nila ang sikat na Hacienda Angelina. Kilala ring pilantropo ang Lolo nitong Si Don Sigmundo Montecillo. Minsan niyang sinabi sa kanyang sarili na hinding-hindi siya magkakagusto sa negra na iyon kahit pa ito na lang ang natitirang babae sa mundo. Ngunit dahil mapaglaro talaga si tadhana. Pilit nitong muling pagtagpuin ang kanilang mga landas at pilit na sisilipin ang tunay na na nilalaman ng kanilang mga puso.
